(Special) The heavy rains of the past week ave ruined about one-third of the strawberry crop; there has been so much rain .that the green ber ries are rotting on the vines. There has been only a very few berries sent out of the Cove this week. ., S $ Cove, July 2. (Special) The union stock show moving pictures were in the Cove Saturday night under the. man agement of J. R. Willis. The pictures are very good, showing all the prin cipal racing events' and the prize-win' ning horses. Besides these there are also some pictures of the stock ranches around Union. ' ".. - Union and Cove crossed bats on the Cove diamond Sunday in a very one sided game, the final score being 15 to 2 in Cove's favor. . There was crowd of fans came down from Union in autos. ... '. . Robinson Williams has been elected assistant scout master of the Boy Scouts. . The Epworth league was very pleas antly entertained at the home of Mr and Mrs. J. K. Lantz on Thursday evening, June 26. - There were a great many out in spite of the rain. Miss Hazeline Wilson who has been visiting friends and relatives here, re turned to her home in Union Thursday. Edwin Vincent of Salem arrived in the Cove the early part of the week He will spend the summer in this sec tion where he has relatives. Miss HattO DeBorde has returned from Walla Walla where she has been since the close of school visiting her sister, Mrs.,, Christine Peal. Leonard Allen has returned from Corvallis where he attended school for the past winter. A. B. Eberts, manager of the Pacific Coast Adjustment bureau of Port land, was in the Cove this week ad justing the fire loss of the mill prop erty. Judd Geer was a La Grande business visitor Thursday. , .E. C. Rees returned from Vale Sun day; he expects to, go back soon to get his family and auto. Leo Blevins took two hundred chick ens to La Grande Saturday. Frank Lantz of Illinois, is visiting at the home of J. K. Lantz. ' Jean Jaycox of Walla Walla is in the Cove visiting relatives. Mrs. Juliet Dougherty of Prosser, is in the Cove. She expects to spend the summer here. Lelah Bloom is visiting Miss Besse Kelley. Mrs. Cole and children, of Wisconsin are visiting at -the home of Mrs Cole's sister, Mrs. E. E. Evans. Mr. and Mrs. I. E. Houx and Wi Houx, were in La Grande Thursday, Harold Earls went to Joseph Thurs day for a visit among friends and rela tives. " . Miss Muriel Shaw of La Grande, ar rived in the Cove Monday. She will remain during the fruit season. Joe Grey, Ray Eyers, Elton Hery ford, Nathan Grey, Charlie Johnson and Lester Johnson started for the Minam Monday, where they will spend the Fourth. - The Epworth League of the Cove M. E. church held their annual election on June 29. The new officers are as follows: President, Dena Lund; 1st vice president, Robinson Williams; 2nd vice president, Harvey Lantz; 3rd vice president, Mrs. Roy Baker, 4th vice president, Esther Trueblood; sec retary, Charlie Organ; treasurer, Har lan Koger, and organits, Mabel Lantz, The delegates elected to the Eastern Oregon Epworth League institute to be held at Joseph on the 16th to 20th of July, are Esther Troueblood, Mabel Lantz, Charlie Organ, Iva Williams and Herman Lund. L. B. Carter was in La Grande Saturday. Mrs. Minnie C. Stevens and son, W i P. Stevens, were in La Grande Friday j j attending to business matters there.
