NSDeciaH The Union Rrug Company have moved into ineir new quarters which has been especially renovated and fixed up for them ill' the Boskwitz building. The store has been fixed up with the latest fixtures in the drug business and it is one of the nicest and finest drug stores in Eastern Oregon. Gus Levy the genial proprietor, says that he is going to keep his business up to the high standard that the Union Drug Co. has always been noted for and tnat he proposes to keep a full line of the best and purest drugs on hand. He especially invites the M. D's. to give him a call and he will carry ev erything that they need. This store adds much to the business appearance of our town and we hope .more.' will follow the good examine set by the union urug Co. John P. Smith died on June 24th at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Elmer Swigger. Mr. Smith has been a pa tient sufferer for several months past until death came to relieve his suf fering. Mr. Smith was one of the pioneer scrttlers of this part of the country. He has spent the past few years in this state and Idaho. He leaves four children and other rela tives to mourn his loss. . The Presbyterian Sunday school had their Children's day last Sunday. Ow ing to the inclement weather the audi ence was not so large as it would have been but quite a number braved the rain and were rewarded by the pro gram that was. rendered. The chil dren gave their parts well and at the close a generous collection was taken that will be sent to the home mission ary society for the Sunc y school work in needy fields. Edith Shappet has been on the sick list for some days. Mr. Chadwell was brought down to the office yesterday in a buggy and will soon.be a'ooui again as he is gain ing fast He will not try to ride a horse again with a halter and carry a bucket of eggs. He is going to leave that part to the professional buckaroo and not try to outshine them again. a large number of the people in Union are lending to Cove for their strawberries. They are getting a good quality at a very reasonable price. We have been having rains for sev eral days past and that is something unusual for this part of the world. The precipitation is the greatest that has been for years.' The e cessive rains have delayed the haying and the farm ers that were so unfortunate as to cut their hay before the rain came will not feel so well over the rain as the dry land farmers. We are changing our minds about living in dry Oregon and think it had better be called wet instead. However, with all the rain and trouble the hay crop is unusually heavy and the farmer will soon be wearing a smile instead of frowns as the clouds rcjj by. The Goodbrod picnic which was to be held Friday, the 27th. will be post poned on account of the heavy rains which have made the ground too wet in the grove. Ihis is a great disap pointment as we all know what good times we have when we go to see Gen and Mrs. Goodbrod. 1 - Mrs. Susewind and children will de part for the East on a visit this week. ! They expect to be gone for some time. Mrs. Chas. Robb is visiting in La Grande with relatives this week. I. V. Fisher, Gen. agent for the Northwestern National Life Insurance Co., was in town the other day and writing -up some insurance for his company. Mr. Y isher is the general agent for this section and has come to La Grande since the first of the year. . He has been very busy in get ting things started and will now de vote a part of his time to writing up insurance. Our new postmaster is studying the oostmasterv business under Mr. Dav is and Mr. Webb. He has fine instruct ors and if he does not learn his busi ness thoroughly it will not be the fault of his tutors. Dr. Low reports that the grain on his ranch is looking the best that he has ever seen. The late rains is ust the -thing for the grain. The doctor has about fourteen hundred acres of land in one body and is opening it up as fast as he can as it is new land. Mr. Galloway who was so sick for a Ions- time, and his life was dsspaired of. is'out Tgain and able to resume his old position as nipht watchman at the mill of the Union Pine Lumber Co. He is getting hale and strong again which is good news to his many lrienus.
