Starkey,' Jose 26. On the ', 18th
Mountain View Ranch, near Starkey,
was visited with the worst storm we
ever witnessed, some of the hail stones
were an inch in diameter, covering the
ground perfectly white like a "snow
storm. It did great damage to the
timothy 'crop also fall wheat while
over at 'Starkey-Hbere was no damage
a one even in places no hail fell. ,
Wm., Conditt and Wm. Kennedy of
Stoekdale ranch, were on Beaver creek
in the hail storm and eame very near
having a runaway, their horses being
badly. frightened with the haiL v '
: Mrs. Briggs and ' daughter Alice,
from Miehlgan,are visiting W. Briggs
and J. Briggs, his sons, Mr. Briggs is
glad to meet old friends again and
thinks Starkey is a very pleasant sum
mer rest Second to his home in the
state of Michigan, and his daugh
ter will visit friends in California be
fore returning to their home. -
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Writcher of
Pendleton, are visiting Mrs. 'Kate
Burnett
; Miss Flora McShain went to La
Grande to meet her sister, Miss Olive
McShane who has just returned from
