Plans are being rapidly, finished by
which, , every resident in Wallowa
county may participate in the cele
bration of the 137th anniversary, of
the Independence of the United
States. As usual , there will be a
great celebration at the head of Wal
lowa lake, supplemented by one day
of various sports in Joseph.
: The Socialists will 'hold their an
nual picnic ' which they considered
such a success last year, in Hurricane
canyon. . Imnaha will be the scene of
an enormous gathering and. the cele
bration will, continue two or three
days. People from Chico, The Buttes
Zumwalt, The Park, The Divide
Snake river, and the entire Chesnim-
mus will ourney to Imnaha by wagon
and on horseDack . aa they have an
nually done for manjf years past. A
great many of the residents in the
above sections, make the Fourth not
only a red letter day in celebrating
and rejoicing, but- also look forward
to it as the day on which they can
greet many friends,' which they, do
not see the entire year around.
The hospitality of the Imnaha peo
ple is known far and wide and many
visitors from outside counties spend
the Fourth as their honored guests.
Flora will give her annual giant
celebration, assisted by Promise
The great public picnic will be held
'at the mouth of Hurricane canyon
and the free dinner of . strawberries,
sugar and cream, will be served as
usual. This undoubtedly will be a
grand success since there is no lov
lier spot in all Oregon. The "Switz
erland of America," is a fitting place
in which to celebrate the birthday of
our national Independence as it fur-
