Like many other card clubs, it rings down the curtain during, the ; summer ' months and rings up again in the fall. , At the George Carpy home on M avenue Wednesday afternoon of this week; Mrs. : George Carpy and Mrs, Stella Ingle entertained- a number of ladies in honor of Mrs. A. T. Hill who leaves the latter part, of the week for Portland to spend some time with mends and relatives in the Rose city. The home was beautifully decorated, sweet peas being the foundation of the decorative scheme. The "fea ture" in the afternoon's entertain ment was the historical art contest. each lady drawing, a description of an assigned subject. Mrs. Bruce Den. nis' picture "The Pendleton Round Up," received . attention... During the course of the afternoon cooling refreshments were served to tho as. 8embled guests. One of the principal society events of the wek occurred on Wednesday evening, when Mesdames Richardson and Loughlin were hostesses at the former's residence to a shower given in honor of Miss Marion Cowell who departs this . evening to make her home in the east. About SO of Miss Cowell's friends enjoyed the delight ful time in a pleasbig and informal way. The color scheme which was carried out even in the refreshments, was yellow and white, giving a most artistic and charming setting to the entertainment of the evening. Mrs. Richardson favored the gueses with a couple of solos making a pleasing ending for a very enjoyable time to all present Miss Cowell, who has so efficiently superivsed the.
