Conklin had a wrestle ; last Monday afternoon and the result was that they had to buy a new pair of overalls. - Bill Leadbetter's y horse - took the capital prize at the Union stock show. ' North Powder, June 11. (Special) Sunday afternoon as Rev. Harry Young, accompanied by his wife and son, was dringing into town the horse became frightened at an engine just outside the city limits and started to run.tipping the buggy over, and throwing . the occupants into a ditch Fortunately no one was injured be yond a thorough soaking and some bruises, although the buggy passed over Mr. Young, who hung onto the horse and succeeded in stopping the animal. .Just about everybody in and around North Powder took in the stock show in,' Union last week. North Powder was well represented both in exhibits and ribbons won. The exhibitors were Davis Bros., Bowman Bros.. W. Fl Hutchinson, and C. S. Moore, show ing various breeds of horses and all of them winning ribbons. H. C. Bid well showed his Arabian colt, which attratced a great deal of attention, as it is the only one in this part of the country.. Mr. Bidwell is justly proud of being the possessor of so fine an animal. J. A. Briggs of lone, Ore., has been elected superintendent of the schools for next year. The others teachers are: Mrs. Breedlove, Miss.Retta Mer cer, and Miss Nellie Chandler. L. McGregor shipped a carload of hogs to Portland Saturday . This locality was favored with heavy showers Saturday and Sunday, those on Sunday being accompaned by a display of fireworks. (Special) Benja min F. Hugg passed away at his honw near Summervillo Saturday evening, after a long and failing illness. Benjamin r. iingg was born in Washingtn County, Utah, June 13 1837, and died June 7, 1913. He leaves several sisters and brothers nnd num erous relatives, besides a host of friends to mourn his death. He was well liked and loved by all who knew him. To the People of Summerville. Sunday morning, June 15, at 11 o'clock, Rev. Everett Smits will preach in the Presbyterian church on John 8:12, "Jesus the Light of the World."
