Too much Jamison that's what beat the Irrigators Wednesday. La Grande's great southpaw was in splendid form and Boise didn't have a look-in after his teammates start ed to hit. He pitched shut-but ball all the way through, and had , his support been perfect Boise would not have scored. Incidentally Jamison established a new strike-out record for the local lot. He whiffed 15 of the Boise batters. Bonner ' was pitching a classy brand of ball, - too, and until the eighth inning, when the Spuds got to him it was even stealin'. La Grande's rally in the eighth was what decided the issue. The Spuda bunched their drives in ' that frame and put the game away. The score was tied at 1 to 1 when the in ning started, arid its close saw La Grande four runs to the good. Phil Nadeau opened the frame with a hard drive to left. Peterson followed with a perfect bunt. Reams and Clark were crossed on it and Nadeau went clear to third before the ball was fielded. Peterson was safe. Beck hit a safe one between first and second, scoring Nadeau. . Fitchner Cinches It. Fitchncr went in to hit for Wal ters. Did he hit? Slightly a triple into left center that sent both Beck and Millor over. Jamison followed with a single that scored Fitchner. Corbin hit to Reams for a double play that ended the inning, but La Grande had the game on ice. Both teams started with little slips that meant runs. Blnusser's hit and steal of second, followed by a little loose infield work, gave Boise a count in the third, and La Grande scored in much the same way after two were gone in the sixth. The Irrigators tried to get started with tow out in the ninth, but Jami son did not weaken. The score: BOISE. AB. R. H. PO. A. E. This is the unanimous verdict of Pendelton fans who are much incensed against him because of certain things they know, certain other things which they saw ctrtain other things which the saw yesterday during the game between the Pendleton and Walla Walla teams. The" local fans know that Starkeil applied for the position of manager of the Pendleton team before the season was started and was turned down. For this reason they believe that he is prejudiced against this city and would not be inclined to give the team the benefit of any close decisions. That he did not give Pendleton a square deal in the open ing series has been testified to by many local fans who saw the games in Walla Walla, by traveling menj who saw the games with unbiased1 mind and by no less personage I than one of the directors of thei Walla Walla baseball club. a prominent business man of this city! stands ready to swear that this Walla Walla director, who is one of the most prominent baseball fans in the Garden City, declared to him per sonally that Starkell's decisions cost Pendleton two games in the opening series with the Bears. He will sup ply his own name and the name of the director if necessary. The fans know that : Starkeil is quite capable of umpiring in a satis factory manner for there was no ar biter in the league whose work was more commended over - the circuit than was his last year. They know that they have heard that he did not treat the Buckarooes fairly during the opening series and that he did not treat La Grande fairly in the Monuments Concretejjo - Made In La Grande LATEST DESIGNS Rost Building Material ' Made In La Grande. BASEBALLIGOSSIP "Heck" Mclnnis left this morning for Boise where he will fill in until the pitching staff is added to satis factorily. Mclnnis is doing the trick as an accommodation to the. erippled pitching staff alone, and his friends are pulling for him when he goes in. Naughton was painfully hurt when in the seventh inning one of Bonner's fast ones caught him on the arm yes terday. He retired from the game. Nadeau came in and played second and King went to center field. Later when Fitchner went in to hit for Walters Carl shifted himself to first and sent Fitchner to center. Fitchner was a busy man while he was in the game. In one time at bat he drove out a triple, and in the eighth inning he put out all three. Two of his putouts were hard chances too. ' o If Jamison continues to pitch that kind of ball he won't last long in this league. It will be faster company for him. He is some crooked arm. Boise Statesman. Foley and King as ruler and aide-de-camp of the La Grande baseball club did a wise thing when they' re leased Mountain. It was the only course open to them. He hasn't been winning any games and accord ing to the reports failed to show any better decorum off the field this year than last. But, Mountain will prob ably sign with some other club in the league, brace up and be a real man and come back and trim the Spuds. He has it in him if he would take care of himself. Well, we won yesterday, we win) again today and we win Saturday and Sunday, which is taking th ser ies. La Grande fans know that Star keil is as good as the best on bases. His balls and strikes were off while, here, but no mortal can ciritioiie his his base running decisions, at least no those made here. Pendleton is drawing the attention of the officials' now. La Grande wade a little kick and got an awful scolding, terrible scolding. It makes a difference whose ox pored always, i Anheuser-Busch Beer On Draught AT THE LOTTES BAR 1118 JEFFERSON AVE.
