Rudd.) v The report of tue ortiand Associa tion for the first three months of the year shows among its many other activities that 41 men coming from the east or foreign countries were looked up, assisted in one way or an other and put in touch with friends or relatives who had written about them. C.1 A; secretaries" are located who meet young men coming from oher countries, learn where they are goi.ig and notify the secretary of the near est association. Mr. Kudd of tne lo cal organization has recently found two young men in this way. - The miblic schools of Portland re cently engaged Dr. T. E. Spaulding of Newton, Mass., an educational expert, to make an examination of the schools of the city. During his visit he also visited the educational department or the Y. M. C. These Associations are actively co operating in the "Safety First" move ment and weekly lectures and demon strations are given in the Association buildings. It has often been thought that a Y. M.'C. A. could not be successfully conducted in cities of loss tl'mn; Jive or six thousand population.- The lit tle city of Payette, Idaho, with about 8000 people has proven a notable ex ception. Its boys dc-pprt-ment is divided into groups of 30 to 15 boys who engage in gymnasium work, Bible study, tennis, scouting, etc. The building is also used by an average of ton to twelve other organ izations each month. Their work has attracted the attention of other smaller towns of the valley until now the Y. M. C. A. has several calls to assist in organizing similar groups in these places.
