last article told about the five cash
prizes $100, $75, $60, $50 and $10 to
be given to the counties that makes
the best showing in the children's
contest.
In any county , not entering this
competition, any and all - one . room
schools may enter the district com
petition. The first prize in tlhla la
Victor phonograph and twelve rec
ords, given by the publishers of the
Rural Spirit. This would be a fine
thing for entertainment ' In tl
school and a great aid In making the
a social center.
The second prize is an eighte;n
inch library globe given by the North
west Furniture company, a useTul
article in any school.
The third prize Is a school flag
given by the publisher of the Pacific
Northwest.'
The fourth prize, another school
flag, given by A. I Mills, president
of the First National bank, Port'anil,
and the fifth prize ts a Babcock test
er, given by Monroe and Criesel.
Every school should show Its pat
riotism by floating the stars and the
stripes. A Babcock tester should be
im every school. Ita use is one of
the be ways to teach percentage,
and it will encourage an Interest ;n
dairying. '
This industrial contest is one in
which every girl and boy attorning
school can take a par While ihe
pupils are thus advertising their
school and county, and Increasing
their pride of home and pntrlot'sm,
they are also learning to do some
thing useful something by whfch
they can earn a living and can als
make of themselves more valuable
citizens.
The prize list will be off the press
In a few days. In the meantime be
planning to do all you can to help
win one of those fine district or
county prizes. Your articles can
compete In the individual classes, al
so, even though they "are a part of a
county or district exhibit.
