As other contestants are nominated a number will be given each; NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC To those interested in the contest now running in La Grande we desire to make the following explanation: , Owing to sickness our representative, Mr. Shaw, was unable to be present last week,-therefore all the rules necessary for a clear understanding did not appear in the published rules. Before going farther we wish it known that these rules are for no other purpose than to cftnduct this contest in a fair and impartial manner. Reali zing as we do that all each contestant wants to know is, that all are treated alike you will accept this explanation in the spirit in which it is given. We also wish to state farther, that all the votes that are out to date will stand as voted. In the fuiure, however, the following rule, known as Rule No. 17, will be in force. Rule 17 All votes given out MUST bo" deposited by the PURCHASER, whether it be a contestant or a friend of a contestant. This means that the party, who buys the goods and receives the votes may c ast these votes for whomsoever he desires, but he must vote them himself or herself at the store where the purchase is made the following "Wednesday. Again we respectfully request that you all read .these, rules very carefully so that there may be no in isunderstanding and remember we desire to work no hardship on anyone, but the contest must be conducted strictly according to the rules. ; . ' Remember, any individual can be a contestant. Register.your name or the name of your friend at th e La Grande Observer office and that name will .be forwarded to us when you will be given a number by which each and every con testant will be known in this contest. .. ' , . "We desire also to make it plain that the contestant making the greatest gain each week will be given a premium. There are 26 wfcekly premiums besides seven that are to be given to the seven leading contestants at the 'contest's1 close the automobile being the capital prize. , The question has arisen regarding the voting of county and city business. To explain this we will say that the county and city business is entitled to votes, , but in the case of the county some member of the 'county court must deposit the votes in person, and in case of the city either a? city councilman or the, city recorder instructed by a resolution from the city! council, stating for nhat number the votes shall be cast, must deposit the votes in person.
