There is nothing like seeing things at close range like meeting men (ace o face in order to form a correct opinion. This being true the opinion of President Wilson by Fred .1. Holmes, who has Just returned from Washington, has considerable weight with us. Naturally Mr. Holmes being a Democrat, he would see the best aide of the present administration, but regardless of his political affilia tions all know him to be a clcancut reasoner and absolutely safe in his conclusions. When asked how President Wilson Impressed him, Mr. Holmes said the j president Is all right. Safe and eon . aetvatlve. yet sufficiently progressive to do with any precedents at Wash ington that stand in the way" of f.in adancement of the people of the na tion. Tn fact, the conclusion of Mr. Holmes Is the same conclusion that many of us have felt for some time 1 .....,t,t,i..ni nil he inn do to keen! things lined up. It looks to us, and the statement of Mr, Holmes only makes us believe It the stronger, that President Wilson is not only safe but that he possesses considerable statemanshlp and should his administration be a failure It will be largely due to his Inability to han dle a congress elected fresh from the people, many members of which have personal ambition which likely will supplant the desire to legislate for the entire nation. There Is, however, no use In cros sing that bridge before it Is seen, and until the congress shows itself a stumbling block to progress we, along with rll others who did not vote ;or Prer.ldnt Wilson, will wait, anxiously with the hope that thing may run smoothly and successfully. 0T DISCOCBAGED. There Is a wrong Impression In the minds of many regarding he fruit culture Jn this valley. True enough, this happens to be a year when there Is scarcely any market and prices are exceedingly low. We have seen the time In Kansas when corn sold for ten cents a bushel but the farmers did not quit raising corn; wheat has sold for 25 cents a bushel In this valley, and less, yet the ranchers did not cease raising wheat. The most refreshing thing to know regarding fruit at the present time is that this valley does really produce first class quality, and with that knowledge the details of a profitable orchard can be worked out.
