The Union Sunday school gave an Easter service Sunday afternoon, before - a large audience, which was consider ed by all present as excelling any previous effort The service setting forth la com plete ' chronological sequence the events of the Resurrection day en titled "The Easter Story" In sons, and story was rendered by a Chorus of school members under the direc tion of Superintendent Trayner with Mrs.' Matt Coalwell as reader and George W. Perry as organist. Lloyd Kelly delivered the aermonette in a pleasing manner. The interior of the building was artistically decorated with palms, flowers, Easter colors, purple and white, and unique crepe paper bord ers around the walls typical of Easter.' The program although very pre tentious for a small school was well rendered Justifying the selection of a difficult task In preparation. At the close of the service all pres ent were presented with a "Bunny Basket," containing moss and candy eggs together with a bangle from which was suspended A small cross and Easter lily. . Prior to the advent of the present Union school, no permanent religious services had been conducted In this community. The school was organ ized December 14, 1910 with Mr. C. B Pickens of La Grande as superin tendent and Jacob H. Traynor of this place as assistant. Upon retirement of Mr. Pickens In September 1911, who was leaving for western Oregon Mr. Traynor took charge of the school and has continued' as superih tendent ever since. 'Naturally the people of Perry appreciate the evi dences of permanency that pervade the Union school and hopes are ex pressed that It may never discontinue Leon B. Stoddard made a trip to Pendleton yesterday on business. Mr. Clelia Scott, sister of Mrs. W. W. Holden. left lust night for her home in California. Mrs. Scott has been visiting wth her sister seven weeks here in Perry. John Traynor of Salt Lake is mak ing a visit with his son Jacob H. Traynor. Mrs. Carry Kelley Higginson, Is now making preparations for moving to Idaho where her husband Is at the present time. Mrs. Higginson has long been a resident of Perry and the people dislike to see her with her family leave. dssie.aaaaa aa aOciwweLon OIXU (Mrs. Arvilda Jackson of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, is now visiting with her relatives Chas. Hansen and fam ily. The Perry social club gave their last dance of the season last week. This makes the 14th dance given by the 'club and on every occasion the people have enjoyed themselves Im mensely. The logging train was delayed yes terday from getting In on account of a wreck. ! ; Ed Bean was down from the camp today and reports that It was two below xero there this morning. "The Oregon-Washington Railroad & Navigation company is to receive additional equipment, according to announcement made to J. H. Keeney. A few days ago announcement was made of a large order for locomotives one of the - largest single orders over ' made. Immediately following comes a correspondently large order for freight equipment. This order calls for 5.390 box cars. 100.000 pounds capacity and 2050 single deck 80,000 pounds capacity stock cars.
