Hannon bids fair to disappoint every
prognostication made at his election
in November by a straight and active
enforcement of the law. Taking of
fice but a tew days ago, he has be
gun to strike from the ahouler. He
declared ' that if elected he would
play .no favorites but see that the
law was fully enforced, and the
beauty of it is, he is making good. I
For the first time in the history of
the city calaboose it is receiving a
complete house cleaning. It was
the lousiest and filthiest city Jail
in the state. Hannon begun by
'burning all bedding aad cVothlng
found In the place, getting men to
scrub the walls, celling and floors
with strong lye. Then he notifies the
young sports about town. "Keep out
of the saloons or I'll run you In."
and he's doing it.' A few days ago
he arrested a young man, a minor.
whom he had warned to keep out of
the saloons, and he received a heavy
fine. Every minor in the place has
received notice that from now on
they must keep out. This is also in
a measure the future policy of the
saloon men themselves .
But Hannon was not satisfied with
this. Seeing a number of women of
the underworld dropping Into town,
he escorted them to the depot and
told them to take the first train out
and saw taht they did It. Then be
turned around and arrested the Jap
rooming house man for renting one
of them a room.
And Huntington Is asking what it
all means, whether It Is the real
thing, that is to be the future pol
icy of the city fathers, or only make
believe spasm of city righteousness.
At any rate every one ' Is disposed
to accept it at its face value without
questioning and say to Marshal Han
non "Good, go to it."
