(Special) Fire broke out about three o'clock yester day site moon In tbe home of Mrs. Link Haynes. Tbe alarm was sound ed and the firemen quickly responds and by prompt action had the blaze under control In a few minutes. It must have started from a defective chimney as the flames were first seen on the roof. Tbe damage will not be very heavy owing to tbe prompt action of the firemen. ' , From two to three Inches of snow fell in Union on the 19th. We had a blizzard in the afternoon for awhile when It cleared up and turned very cold. It was the coldest night in March that we have had so far. Mr. Ready and Mrs. Priscllla Soren- son surprised their friends by going to La Grande last week and getting married. They have the best wishes of their friends for their future hap piness and prosperity. It Is rumored that Leland Clarke, otherwise known as "Boots" was married on the 18th mst. to a young lady from North Powder. Boots Is j well known to the baseball world.
