The commission should see to It", said Mr. Turner, "that the construc tion of a series of trunk lines of high ways throughout the state begins at the earliest possible date. These trunk lines should open up all partB of the state and should not be con fined to any single portion. If this work Is done properly, more funds will come steadllv to continue ex tensions, until we have a network o' good roads throughout Idaho. This state has been shamefully backward In the matter of road buili Ing. In comparison with other states which have had less reason for high way construction, Idaho has certainly taken a back seat. Now, however, there is promise of great things. This question of good roads has come to stay and we can't get away from It: The thing for all of us to do Is to take It seriously and see that the ' work goes forward In the most expeditious manner, possible. Then one of these days everybody In Idaho will wake up to the tremendous value of im proved thoroughfares. Throe Steps Xecssu7 If the trunk -lines I - have men tioned are properly constructed. It will not be long before connecting lines are extended from them In all directions. I honestly believe that with the work properly done, we ought to obtain from the national government 300,000 acres of agricultural and timber lands. Is this la done and handled rightly, It will give Idaho, together with other sources of revenue, between t.50, 000,000 and $40,000,000 to be ex- penned during the next 20 years in After the meeting at the Presby terian church a week or so ago, at which time the finances were thor oughly discussed, it was decided that the .members make a campaign to collect the money due at this time, something over $9000, which would more than meet the present obliga tion of about $8000. This was at tempted and some money collected but not sufficient to meet the re quirements Many who have sub scribed for various ' reasons refused to pay, and in the aggregate these amounts run up to a-large total. The failure to get the money means the postponement of the form al opening of the new institution but not for long, as the directors have a plan whereby the necessary funds will soon be forthcoming, according to announcement last evening. In fact plans are already being made for the doings, which will cover three days, Friday, . Saturday and Sunday. Iff. K.
