March 4. .(Special) This locality has been visited by hard showers of rain since Sunday even ing. The snow la till gone here In the valley except a few of the larger drifta while it Is reported that there Is nearly five feet of snow up In the canyon, which means that Ladd creek will soon be booming If the warm ' weather continues. Friends are glad to know that Mrs. James McClure has almost complete ly recovered from her recent acci dent. Mrs. McClure sustained a bro ken rib and was quite badly bruised, when their cutter turned over as they were driving home from La Grande a few weeks ago. Miss Irene Mulholland visited over Saturday night with her sister. Mrs Alec Fergason, who now resides at Island City. Francis, the little son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Krouse, who ha" been 111 for some time. Is much Improved since the cansulation of a La Grande doctor. . Mrs. Frank Counsell has received word from her sister, Mrs. Estella Kinney, who went to Portland two' weeks ago to undergo an operation for a very severe case of appendicitis Wat I ill? that she had thus far recover ed well enough to be able to return to her home at Joseph about Friday. The extension division of the Oregon Agricultural college sent out seven lecturers the past week-end to different parts of the state. Prof. T. D. Beckwith of the bacterloligy department spoke both Friday night and Saturday after noon In Portland on "Bacteria and our daily life", under the auspices of the Portland Library association. Prof. F. L. Kent of the dairy depart ment held an Institute at Hodd River at the request of the Commercial club, at which the place of the cow on the fruit ranch was considered. A committee of business men of Scappose sent for Dr James Wlthy- oombe of the experiment station to given an address Saturday afternoon on "The Possibilities of the Small Farm". Prof. C. I. Lewis of the. di vision of hortculture went to Cot tage Grove to speak before the Grange on the proposed establish ment of a co-operative cannery there Prof. A G.
