It la quite Ilkeljf that La Grande's
social circle will be enlarged during
tbe coming spring- season and that
many functions held here will in
clude Baker people In the lnvltaton
list The strong friendly feeling be
tween the two cities has in the past
found an obstacle In he war of train
service., but now that has been over
come to such an extent that the two
comjn unities can mingle In social
matters, which doubtless will soon
be started, and ouce started it will
grow. Already the automobile clubs
of the two places are getting in
close touch and planning many
vents for tbe summer.- The attitude
of many La Oraude people Is that
Baker people and people from this
city should know each other better
and an effort will be put forward to
that end.
The presence of ladles in the Com
mercial club rooms Tuesday even
inn wn a gladdening sight nnd the
Interior of the club, which heretofore
had been patronized by men only,
seemed a great deal more cheerful as

regularly brought up Us capacity of
lady guests. The rooms were, filled
so that standing room only was to be
had, to hear the splendid program
prepared for the occasion which was
the event of the : Tuesday Muslcale
and given in honor of the Commercial
club for tendering the use of- the
club rooms to this organization.

Commercial club . is a communUy
proposition, but also, is the Tuesday
Muslcale. The program carried high
grade selections from the , world's
best authors and each number was
handled in a way that presented posi
tive proof of the musical ability in

What will be a social event In the
theatrical circles will begin Sunday
night when tbe Wheeler Stock com
pany open at the Steward theatre
for a 'several day's engagement. Tbe
Wheeler people come with the high
est rcommendation and tbe people
are assured of some real artists in
stock. It has been some time since
"stock" was played In La Grande and
the people will take advantage of the
opportunity to hear their favorite act
or or actress for several evenings In
succession. Metta Chamberlain, the

marriage In Portland a few days ago.
While a businessman now with the
firm of Frailer ft Dillworth. East
side men's furnishers, Mr. Frailer
wan for several years a relsdent of
La Grande and now owns about 1200
acres of land In this valley. He was
very prominent in Washington high
athletic, graduating from there with

The M. B. A. lodge No. 1413, gave a
social last night and after Its regular
meeting a short social session was
held. The members retired to the
ballroom where dancing and other
amusements were In progress. All
were served light refreshments and
everyone present had a very enjoyi

regular meeting Tuesday evening

meeting this afternoon. There were
17 initiations. After this work all
partook of 'a delicious banquet which
was served In the banquet hall.

held Its first party last evening at
the I. O. O. F. halt The event was
marked by very pleasant evening's
entertainment.
Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Snodgrass were
host and hostess to the Pinocle club
membership last Tuesday evening at
