For the benefit of the Pendletnu
baseball club a smoker and athletic
entertainment will be ": held , Friday
evening In the Oregon theatre, Dud
ley Evans, manager of the P. A. A.
C, being in charge of the affair. A
line card is being prepared and the
proceeds will be turned over to the
club to swell the fund being raised
for the launching of a team. . .
- The program will consist of a
number of three round boxing bouts,
several wrestling matches, a battle
royal and . other - special features.
Among the' boxers who have already
signified their willingness to partic
ipate n the card are Blly Gaffney,
Jockey Bennett, Buddy . Stevens,
Young Whtey. Pasco, Carl Thomas,
Young Langford , Dudley Evans,
Clark Nelson, Brooke . Dickson,
Young Casey, B!U Sweeney and Hen

fifteen minute bout with one of his
ppp'ls and It is probable that Earl

Manager F. E. .Welsh has volunteer
ed the use of the theatre for the
event and, invlew of the purpose of
the occasion, it is expected that L a
large crowd will turn out. '
Sullivan Boy Bit by Taxlcab,
(Baker Herald.)
A young lad by the" same of Bui
livan was hit . this afternoon by. a
taxlcab owned by Olds and Wattles
and driven by -John Caviness. He
was hurried to a physician and it is
not thought he is seriously Injured.
Several boys were playing marbles
on Main street in front of the Her
ald office when Cavlness turned the
corner from Bridge street. A wagon
was coming from the opposite direc
tion and it appears the boy was be
wildered In attempting to dodge both
vehicles.

day Quy L." Anderson has accepted
the appointment tendered him by D.
C. Ecclea, to become general mana
ger of the' Sumpter -Valley railroad.
Mr. Anderson will assume his new
position March 1. Whether this will
necessitate the removal of any of
the local officials Is not yet stated,
but rumor has it that some radical
changes will take place when Mr.
Anderson takes control.
Progressive management Is ' the
keynote of Mt. Anderson's success
in railroading and his affiliation with
the Sumpter Valley means much to
that Tosd.
He Is 23 years old and has work
ed his way up rapidly with the O.-W.

for the local club. Nick Williams
also stated that it was unauthorised
by him. It. is strictly against lhe
rules of the Western Trl-State league
to use optional or "farmer" players
and the local management is going
to live up to the rule to the letter.-

Elks Prepare for Musical Comedy.
