Clark, a young man about 27 or 28 years old, waa arresetd yes terday ' by Robert Nelson, being charged with passing two worthless checks on local business places, one at a barber shop for 'the sum of fa and the other at a restaurant for the sum of $1. says the Baker Demo crat. The checks were drawn on the Powder Valley State bank and sign Boots Clark, whether or not "Boots" Is his right given name. The checks were returned from North Powder Tuesday, when presented for pay ment by the local bank where they were cleared. It was stated last eve ning that effort had been made by Clatk to "square" himself by making the checks good. District Attorney Godwin was out of the -city yesterday but the com plaint against Clark was drawn up by Attoreyn James Nichols, acting in his stead. Mr. Nichols, In speaking of the case last evefcing, said: "The position of the district, attorney's of See In the case is this: . While It would hardly seem Justifiable to send the' man to the penitentiary for this offense, still Clark m an all-around bad character, and in all probability Mr. Godwin will prosecute the case against him to the end.
