census figures Usued by the federal
department of agriculture In January
of each year, purporting to show the
number of cattle, hogs, and sheep In
the country at the beginning of the
year, were made public In Washing
ten on Wednesday of last week. The
department of agriculture estimates

compared with previous years, as fol-

pared to a year ago, and 3,649,000

en dairy cattle population, supposed

' less than a yeaf ago, and sheep sup
plies are also a million head less. '
The hope Is expressed that plentiful
and cheap feed supplies now on hand
, will result In a tendency to Increase
breeding and feeding operations.

macadam; determining the property
benefited thereby; levying an assess
ment thereon to defray the costs and
expeness of the Improvement; provid
ing for the assessment roll, of the
same and directing the entry of said
assessment in the docket of city liens;
providing the time when the same
