cer at Walla Walla, was notified and
came over this morning to take tbe
testimony of the. women. It has been
ascertained that they were formerly
residents of North Yakima, both wo
men having been divorced, one three
months ago, and the other six. One
had formerly been employed in a
steam laundry In that city. The men
Brst brought them to Walla Walla
where they resided a short time, af
terwards coming here. It was shown
tihat the women have been sent out on
the street to solicit the attentions of
other men to raise money for their
male companions. One of the women
was given simply to hold them until,.
Mr. Wells could have an opportunity
to get them on the stronger charge of
white -slavery, which the police say Is
tbe charge they are really guilty of.
It Is said that the defendants are
making very poor witnesses for them
selves, as they were kept "separate
since the arrest and their several stor
tcs dot not come very close together,
but everything points to it being a
cose of white slavery on tbe part of
the men. At the time of going to
press there are still two or three wit
aesscs to examine, but the testimony
Is not thought to be favorable to the
accused.
