The Live Wire says:
"In the Interview Dr. White discus
sed the general health conditions and
local prospects. He sard- that be was
afraid that Umatllla county Is going
to have some trouble . with typhoid
this coming season, unless steps are
taken. In regard to the water supply

gon state hospital will be run through

constructed, but as all the money ap-
prtated was used for building purposes
before the legislature convened, this
very essential Improvement was held
up and will probably not be completed

Burnt River Wants Quarantine.
Mike Rouse, a prominent fanner of
the Rurnt river district complained
to Conntr Judge P. Baache this morn
ing of the carelessness of the. peo
ple of rturnt river with regard to the
smallpox, suys the Baker Herald. Mr
iHousr says 1hnt there are a number
of cases of the disease in the district
which have been spread from Mai
nour couny.

A. J. McLeod, proprietor of the
Wardrobe announces that he . will in
the course of this month install
the Oregon Hotel building a modern,
dry cleaning and dye works estab
lishment. The new plant will con
sist of a power room containing a
motor and a high pressure boiler !
with which he will .operate his dye
vats, dry cleaning apparatus and dls-
tilling tanks. "In the neighborhood
of $1,000 will be invested in the
plant," said Mr. McLeod, "and it will
be one of the best equipped in this
section of the. state."
Until the first of June some of the
work which Is' to be done in the
new plant will be done In the present
establishment In the Foley building
but after that date all of the work
will be done In the new plant.
"La Grande hasn't got a dyeing
plant of this caliber, and tile addi
tion to the city's facilities will b
welcomed. Inasmuch as all of the
dyeing is sent to Portland and other
cities at an Increased expense for
transportation," said the proprietor
today. ' ' . "
