FRIDAY JANUARY 24, 1913. PAGE TWO LA GRANDE ETOSnNO OBSE3VEK, S . s SEEDS 1EACH DEALERS CATALOGUE HOUSES FLOOD CITT WITH CATALOGUES. Market Review Indicates Higher GARDEN , Flour Prloes-OHeat Prices Strong. . Garden seeds are on the market and It would do well to Btart the ear ly varieties of vegetables In boxes and later transplant them. All of the local groceries . have new shipments of last year's seeds and all of them will be fresh and hardy. Seed houses , that have always found ready sales In La Grande for astor seeds are pour ing in their catalogues this month nd In due time the astor lovers will have their plants propagating. , Flow Market Inclines bp. -All market reports look for an additional advance In the price of ' flour. It Is . quite certain that the price of wheat will continue to climb' owing to the oriental market. While shipments were not heavy and many , of the wheat pit recorded a loss of a fraction of a cent In the price, this la taken as no indication that the price Is going to slump.- (Millers have been the heavy buyers and this may bo tnkein as an Indication that they have been on the Inside of the wheat .' situation and are laying in a stock 1 at lower figures. i ' -, Cattle Firm and Hogs Higher. . As usual the supply for cattle was large enough to make spirited bidding at the Portland yards and keep the price at eight cents for prime stock. Hogs had an advance of 15 cents and the prospect Is for the price to hover around those figures for a time. The receipts were just ordinary and but few of them brought the top notch price. Calves have been at 9 cents for the last week and tho prospect is for to price to remain there or even go higher. j mr. Vegetables Score. Even though a vessel load of greeiv stuff arrived on the Portland market the supplies had run down so low that the demand will more than eat np this shipment before others ar rive. It is not likely that an'ytof them will be seen on the La Grande market save perhaps head lettuce and celery. The local green house is sup plying a fine quality of lettuce and patrons, of the stores eagerly pur chase whatever they have on hand. There has been no decided change In the fruit situation and none Is looked for in the near future. Hood stiver people are making efforts to market their product on the coast in a systematic way. and the method ) , . . . . , . . . - ie iuiiuwcu pruniauiy uy iii Urande Ronde apple growers, r Flonr, Fred and Groin.
