It Is the first strictly refriger ating plant for the reduction of gaso line from natural gas ever establish ed in the world, as far as known. . . One billion cubic feet of natural gas, equal In beat and power to one million bushels of coal, Is lost dally from the otl wells of America.'-The gas escapes Into the air, in spite of man's efforts to catch It. W. C. Cutler of Sawtelle, scientist, Inventor and hard worker, has a way to catch this - gas which Is proving marvelously successful and last week re put in operation the plant at Olln-i da whereby he saves all the contents of the precious gas. The plant is working now. Its success may af - fed the oil Industry of the entire world. It may make poor oil wells profitable, enrich these Interested in good working wells, greatly extend the use of oil and Its products all ov er the world and clieapon the cost of oil products and heat, light, pow er and refrigeration to the general public. By cheapening the now precious products, such as rhigolene, cymo gene and melthame, with a boiling point 256 degrees below zero Fahren heit, some extraordinary feats may be accomplished In household econ omy, to the delight of the housewife". With a' single tank f one of these products of gas, she will be able: First, to cool her ice box. Second, run the gas through a pipe and thereby lght the house. Third, heat the house. . Fourth, do her cooking In the kltohen. Various burners and appliances w!H enable her to easily secure all these, bencrjts from one single tanK or rnig- olene. Wben the tanK is exnausteo. It can be replaced by the company and the empty tatik removed like a gasoline can. A supply of the gas product could be utilized In an office building to perDorm all the function of coal or oil as a source of power, Including the running of the elevators, heating or chilling tho drinking water, and heating and lighting the building from ton to bottom. First he caps the well com. pletely; then by the naturlal pres sure of the gag from the well tt nws through a pipe to a number of cnotalnerx. Each container Is of a different temperature., gradually getting lower. For example, he first tank njay be 15 degrees below ero, , Fahrenheit. the second, 25 degrees below and so on. In the first tank will be pre. clpitated the first product; the sec ond will get the next product, about a 60 per cent gravity gasoline; the third, a 70 per cent gravity; the next, an 80 per cent grade, and so forth, until rhigolene, cymogene,' mathene and other extremely- valuable pro ducts are - obtained. Rhigolene is worth about 15 a gallon. The Cutler plant has a. dally - ca pacity, of - 50,000 cubic feet of gas, which It gets direct from an oil well The gas Is chilled by containers sup plied by the six-ton Ice making machine.- The plant Is not large but Is sufficiently extensive to prove or dis prove the claims of the inventor. A college year beginning August Id and ending May 15, Is a possibility at Oregon. The University faculty last week authorized a committee to consider this and other possible changes. . The advantage of beginning the year In August is that each semesters work would be uninterrupted. The first half of the year wo"ld be com pleted before the Christmas vacation Between semesters the students would be allowed four weeks liberty instead of two as at present, but would not leave town for Thankss'v Inst or Easter. The number of school (lav would remain the same. This plan works successfully at the I'ni vprsity of California. The romm'ttee ' will also consider tho University of Chicago's plan- four quarters Instead of two Oir1-e-ters. and university in session- till !ht year round. He swore to killing the animal at his ranch near the Coe dam about three weeks ago and that the double tail was Just as it existed when It was waved by his coyoteshlp in Me.
