Ikia week are Riven in a seven-day
parted. It is accounted for by the
rnsh of social life over which the ac
tual Christmas week rolls. Monday
and Friday eveuiaga each saw an ele
gant dunclng party at the Elks' au
ditorium. Monday evening Mr. and Mrs. J. G.
Cnodgrass. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd C.
Ccribur and Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Snod
Krass entertained at dancing at the
Elks' auditorium Mearly a hundred
couples were guests at the function
which was one of the few formal
dances given this season. The Elks'
auditorium has been decorated be
fore, hut It is doubtful if it was fin
tnhed as beautifully as It was both
Monday and Friday evenings. On
Monday a novel and new scheme of
the decorating art created a fextoony
canopy over the entire dancing floor
with the lengthwise center beam of
the celling the catching point anii
from tho fastenings the garlands
wnng in graceful curves, tmrallel,
to the wall space and there fastened
again equidistant from the floor, large
mirrors breaking the line of fasten
ing. Supplementary to the main
canopy were four minor ones, one la
a corner, forming rest nooks and
adding to the happy blending of color
created by the shades of festoons.
The rohtrum wis latticed in with
harmonious rotors. Indian robes cov
ered all the seats and gave a touch of
lor to the entire combination that
was pleasing. Punch was served
from beneath one of the minor can
ples. Beautiful gowns were numer
ous Indeed and the hostesses were
elegantly gowned. Mrs. J. G. Snod-
grass wore a beaded black chiffon ov
er white crepe uioteor cut en train.
Mrs. Scribcr was gowned In pink
channelise, en train, covered with
white shadov lace. Mrs. L. L. Snod
pim was gowned In i beaded pink
chiffon. The music was excellent and
sot a turn of the hand was left un
done in the detail of entertainment
for the guests. It was- a happy affair
olaborate. well attended and Im
mensely, enjoyed.
OhrlMmas schemes of decoration
Were hit upon with splendid success
at the Elks' auditorium last evening
when Messrs. D. I. Stoddard. R. J.
Greene, G. E. Stoddard, and A.
Squires and Misses Ruth Russell, Lu
crece Wood, Harriet Thatcher and
Kclle Grlmmltt entertained Inform
ally nt dancing. Scores of dancers
were gtiepts and enjoyed the hospi
tality of the evening. Mrs. James
Itnssell, Mrs. Mac Wood. Mrs. Fred
Holmes and Mrs. Will Y. Stoddard
were patronesses
In docoratlon, the hosts and host-
esses hit upon something new In
Christmas schemes. A huge, Invit
ing home like Chrltmas tree dotted
the center of tho dancing floor and
from the very tip of the big, profuse
ly lighted fir, swung dozens of 'long
fir garlands, spreading out in ever
widening angles like a May pole at
tachment, touching the wall with
drooping curves. Wreaths of fir, and
sprays of holly decorated every light
and each window, with excellent ef
fect, and in each corner was a rustic
fir canopy effect. At frequent Inter
vals about the side and end walls
were wreaths of fir and holly. It was
very pretty. The large number of
guests present are vociferous In their
praise of the event. HoHtosses and
patronesses wore very beautiful
gown creations, and the same can be
suld of the guests. Punch was serv
ed and the music was excellent.
Mrs. F. T. Youle was hostess at a
pretty lunchocn at one o'clock last
Saturday at her home near Allcel, In
honor of Miss Callle Howell, who Is

Dec. 2itb. The affair was also a
plate shower. The gifts were given
to the guest of honor after luncheon
while stinted at the table mid a show
er of rice. The luncheon was served
In four courses. Mrs. Morris and
