In today's column appears the second article on the possibilities of a Y. '11. C. A. in La Grande: VYithoot a Home.' Does La Grande need a Y. M. C. A? The answer should be unanimously yes. dn the first place the Y. M. C. A. does a work that the church cannot, from the fact that it reaches boys and young men by Its gymnastic work, the dormittory home for young men and the free employment bureau, I have been without a home for t'ue past four years and I find that theY. M. C. A. afford the best home I can find, for this reason. Instead of go ing to a hotel for my accomodations and loafing In the ' saloon and pool halls among the rougher class, I can go to the Y. M. C. A. dormitory and live -where I am surrounded by the better class of men with plenty of good literature to read and a place where I can make myself at home without being Invited to spend my money that 1 need for the comforts ot life. I find that when a young ma: gets acquainted with the Y. M. C. A. and its members that it puts him where with a small effort on his part he does not have to associate with the rougher class, for when a young man comes Into a strange place where is he going to find a friend? And which friend can he trust when he finds them? I have been benefited especially, by the Y. M. C. A iu North Yakima by making my home there where I had free access to the bath room and gym and the employment bureau had just previous to my arrival there placed a yoi'mg man in the Postal service there. I have also been benefited by the Y. XI. C. A. In Tacoma by obtain ing employment and I made my homo with the boys In Seattle where I made several good friends whom I wou.J net of know otherwise and had It not been for the Y. SI. C. A I likely woulu .lave ueen forced to pick up a frisiid In the snloon or dance ball And by this it brings the youug man to the better class. After a young man once status with the Y. M. C..A , he usual ly stays. I am elad that La Grande has be gun, to think about til's work and yoj will always flint me a "standpatter" for the Y. M. C. A. . W. F. ASHMAN. Tnir Day. November 30th Is Tag Day for the Y. M. C. A. Men's Meetings. Last Sunday afternoon we were favored with a splendid addresj by Wndoacon Webber. Next Sunday afternoon at 3:30 in the i. M. C.
