This advertisement compiled and paid for by the Prohibition central committee of Union county. , . ARTICLE 0. S. 1 , After reading what la going ou In the Sautl ridge tommy the question of land prices, actual profits, prices of fruit and other details bei.onie im portant. In Uie first place permit this state ment which will be borne out by proof: Fruit, land prices In ' the Cirande Ronde valley are the lowest In the whole northwest country. When the first platting of commer cial orchards was made there was established the price of $450' an acre for planted land whbch included care of the trees for five years. Strange, as it may eeem this price has never been raised. The reason for, it Is this: Most of those who were the pioneers In the commercial orchard decided the fruit industry could get no better encouragement thau to keep the price of the planted land down. There Is a positive disposi tion and intention to make the Grande Ronde valley a fruit pro ducing valley rather than a wheat producing seotion. This could only follow by attracting the Investor here who wanted the first class or chard proposition and who was hap plly suprised that prices were so low. By mutual agreement' of the owners In the 'Sandrldge district the prlcp of $130 an acre has besn retained, al though understand there are many orchards In that section that could not bo bought for twice that amount. And In several Instances owners will not price their orchard lands. 'Last year the prevailing prices for apples on board cars at Imbler and Allcel were: Newtowns. $1.82; Rome Beautys, $1.23; Gano. $1.20; York Imperial, $1.20. It takes but a few strokes of the arithmetical pencil to show the handsome profit from the orchards under these prices, and a low more strokes will show where a handsome profit will follow at much less prices than those. For bear i'i mind your expensive Irrigation is eliminated on the Si drldge and sev eral other matters fiat cost iuney in other fruit districts are not nec essary here which o into Uk'. fcjiH-r-al profit column. The interest on your Investment 1s cut down by.: half or more, which is ' ro small inm. The simplest problem in the world Is when prpven orchard land is sold for $130 why pay $1200 an acre for it? Thai is the probein you must take with you when you come from Hood River, Rogue' River, or Yakima to the Sandrldge. . . As yet the prevailing price has not been established for this year's crop. : although there are a number" of smaller contracts being made. In California N'ewtowns are bringing this year $1.25 per box In the or chard. At Payette, Idaho, the apple crop la bringing from $1.10 to $1.23 for the entire crop and an average of 41 cars per day are being shipped. You naturally will say "Why has the Sandrldge not such contracts?" And the answer Is the Sandrldge Is a new district, does not possess the ad ( Continued on page 4.) Dr. C. H.
