Grande Sunday evening October 27,
when the Baptist, Chrisitan, Meth
odist Episcopal, Methodist Episcopal
South, and Lutheran congregations
will call off the usual, evening ser
vice to hear E. R. Martin of Portland
discuss the religious and social con
ditions of the rural districts of Ore
gon and the country at large as based
upon the findings of the Roosevelt
Country Life Commission,; the Nation
al Country Life Congress and various
other nation wide surveys, In an ad
dress appropriately entitled "The
Challenge of the Farm".
Mr. Martin Jibs for more than H
;years been associated with the oldest
Horn Missionary society In America,
the American Sunday School Union
i through the Mississippi Valley states
and on the coast and is now in charge
of the work of that society In the
states of Oregon, Idaho, and Washing
ton. His address, however, is "some
thing different" than the usual ad
dresses of Sunday school workers
and Is spoken of as both startling and
interesting to every student of mod
ern political and social .conditions.
As Mr. Martin says, he has "a mess
ago to the man interested in keeping
down taxation that Is well worth
