Within the next welt or so large tracts of land on Burnt river and the Powder river south of town also on Powder river will be set aside a game preserves. Charles B. Oral, of La Grande, deputy game warden for (bis section of the state, has Just re turned from a trip to Burnt river on which .he made arrangements with several of the farmers of that district to make their land preserves. Mr. would be several hundred acres In- Oral said this morning that there eluded In the present tracts of land to be set aside. Fred Johnson, tbe Baker deputy game warden, has also made arrange ments with the farmers jtfst south of that city and. the residents of North Powder river have voluntarily signi fied their Intention to have their land set aside. According to the state ment of Mr. Oral this morning this will be the last preserve made In this part .of the country. The process of stocking this terri tory set aside and to be set aside will be carried on Immediately. The birds will be put In tbe different preserves for which they are best adapted. These, according to law, will be protected for a period of five years at the end of which time It Is thought that the country will be well stocked with game birds. A Marvelous Escape.
