the voters Is the proposed amend
ment to Section S of Article V of the
tate constitution, providing for the
offioe of Lieutenant-Governor. Under
the present arrangement, the secre
tary of state becomes governor when
ever the chief executive dies, resigns

officers, with all the patronage of the
state at his command, Is unwhole
some and on-American.
The proposed amendment provides
plain and business like method of
succession to the governorship by
creating the office of lieutenant-governor,
who shall also be presiding
officer of the state sennti and whose
compensation shall be only $r.00 per
day when the legislature is actuary in
