association met In Klgln at 11:13 a.
m. Tuesday, at th Presbyterian
church, with a large number of the
j schools of the county represented. The

address of welcome was delivered by
the Rev. F. Grant Ham, pastor of the
Christian church of Elgin. In the
absence of Rev. Martin of I'nlon, the
response was given by Rev. riilpps lq
his own Inimitable way.
The Afternoon Session.
(Rev. W. T. Beatty of Island City,
led In a short devotional service, af
ter which an hour was dl7:l-l be
tween Rev. Phlpps and John H. Rudd
of La Grande, on the subjects ol
teachers' training and missions re
spectlvely. Both of thes addresses
were interesting and helpful. It was
the feeling of those present that the
matter of training teach.1! for ser
vice in the Sunday school has been
too often neglected In the past, and It
is tafe to say that there will be more
energy displayed along his line dur
ing the coming year. Th"1 subject of
' Temperance In the Sunday School"
was presented by Mr. Phlpps In a mas
trr!y manner and many Important
questions were answered by him.
Great Interest was manifested in this
phase of the Sunday school work.

The Evenlng Session.
After a short praise service con
ducted by Rev. H. I. Hansen of El
gin, Rev. Phlpps delivered his splen
did address on the subject of "vision.
Vigor and Victory."
Wednesday Horning.
The convention was opened with a
devotional service led by E. F. Hob-
erts, after which Rev. Phlpps con
ducted a conference on "Elementary
Work In the Sunday School." This
was considered by many the best half
hour of the entire convention.
A paper was presented by Mrs.
Thnmai Walslneer of Allcel, on the
"Work of the Mothers' Department,
and this was followed by a short talk
on the same subje.-t by Mrs. Cleaver,
also of Allcel.
Mr. Rudd reported for the finance
committee and It was finally decided
that it would be necessary to raise
about 15 cents per member for state
and county work for the coming year.
Rev. Dr. E. B. Fyke of La Grande,
gave an address on the subject of
"Sunday School Boosting," In which
he fully sustained his reputation a? a
Sunday school booster.
The Afternoon Session.
Fifteen minutes were spent' In a
consecration service led by Rev. F.
J. Bradley of Summervllle after which
the convention listened to the report
of Mrs. H. A. Thomas, superintendent
of the elementary department Mrs.
Walslnger also presented her report
as First Vice President.

the subject of "The Benefits of Organi
zation." The following report of the commit
tee on "Coasting" was adopted by the
convention.

The next place of meeting will be
at La Grande, In October, 1913, the
exact date to be fixed to suit the con
venience of the general secretary.
The session closed with a splendid
address by the Rev. Chas. A. Phlpps
on the subject "Seven Sunday School
Symptoms."
Special attention 'should be called
to the work done by the president,
Mrs. C. H. Bidwell, not only during
the year past, but during this conven
ventlon. A better presiding officer
could hardly be found.
