In the meantime hearing will be had for the purpose ot determining whether the proposed Increase Is warranted. The existing freight rate of $7 a hundred pounds on automobiles, less than carloads, from New York and other eastern points to Pacific coast terminals, was attacked recently be fore the Interstate commerce com mission. The charge for other self propelled vehicles, less than car loads, Is $4.50 a hundred. Demand is made that the roads reduce the rate on automobiles to $4.50. Designers are racking thalr brains these days to do away with noise in automobiles, the latest being a noise less valve tappet on 1913 Chalmers cars. A small spring, heavy . enough to make the tappet hug the valve, and at the same time not Btrong enough to open It. is employed. s This little de vice eliminates all valve tapping sound which has heretofore been character istic pt gasoline motors. -. Should the Millers have played the (Railroaders it is to "be assumed they would have won which would have tied them 'up with the Clerks, necessitating a deciding game. As the season fa over and most of the teams disbanded. It Is hard to say Just who is who., If th matter is al lowed to stand as it now is, the Clerks have .won 'the Commercial club' cup, but if the Millers-Railroaders game is played and won by the Mil lers then another aspect looms but It Is doubtful If such will occur this year.
