server whether the present sensational
actions of Governor West mean that
he baa an Intense desire to bring about
oetter moral conditions In the state
or whether the executive sees an op
portunity to do a little self advertis
ing. It Is a bard question to answer and
we must confess we do not know. If
. tbe governor Is thoroughly sincere In
tbe matter and Is not thinking of seif

law abiding citizen. But those same
law abiding citizens should at once in
alst that the governor, before ousting
officials from office on bis charge of
failure to do their duty, at once read

Joseph Jefferson used to say that bis
career came very near being nipped In

mining camp to another. They were
