A., chute was set up in the: swimming hole above Oro Dell dam. ; This place has been adopted by the ! men and boys of the town as a teni-, porary Y. M. C. A. swimming pool.. This serves fairly well for the sum-; nier months and we hope that before another winter comes around that we may have a permanent pool in our own building In the center of town, Boys' Swimming Class. Every afternoon at 2 o'clock the boys meet at Oro Dell for a swim. The average attendance although un recorded. Is about fifty. Several bovs have learned and are enjoying the art of swimming. ,' It's great fun and may some day be the means of saving lives If you know of any boy who wishes to lern to swim have him call at the Y. M. C. A. office for particulars. , Boy Scouts. Tjwt Fridav nleht the boys of troops 1 and 2 rallied at troop 8 headquarters to give the movement a boost In- that section of the town. All of the Scout masters and assistant Scout masters were present. Read below the requirements to be met before any boy may be advanced to cecond class Scout. 1. Have at least one month's ser vice as tenderfoot. . 2. ; Elementary first aid andbandag lng. ' 3. Signaling, elementary knowl edge of semaphore or Morse alpha bet. 4. Track half a mile In 25 minutes, or if in a town, describe satisfactorily the contents of one store window out of four, observed for one minute each. 5. Go a mile in 12 minutes at "Scout's Pace." 6. Lay and light a Are, using nor more than two matches. ' 7. Cook a quarter of a pound of meat and two potatoes without cook ing utensils other than the regulation billy. 8. Have at least one dollar In a savings bank. 9. Know the 16 principal points of the compass. The Boy Scouts in La Grande have as their chief object the training up of the boy so that he will make a Better man mentally, morally an,d phy sically. It does not teach the boys to bate the boys of other country. U is not a military organization. Monday afternoon a few of the busy men of the city left at 4 o'clock for the "swimming hole" at Oro Dell. The water was fine and old time school days were recalled. Friday afternqpn the stunt will be tried' again. This time all will meet at the Y. M. C. A office at 4 o'clock and go in a body. It is hoped that m?n who own car may bring them in order that none of the men may have to walk the mile and a half to Oro Dell. Men, get In on this swim Friday afternoon.
