Many Drunks Two Robberies and One
Attempt, Noisy Mobs Work.

to break Into the residence of Julius
Fisher. 1401 North Fir street. About
2 a. m. this morning Mr. and Mrs.
Fisher were awakened by a noise in
the back of their house. Mr. Flsber
got up and upon his appearance heard
someone Jump off the back porch. Up
on Investigation it was seen that the
would-be robbers had broken jthrough
the screen on the outer door and were
trying to open the door Into the house
when Interrupted by Mr. Fisher.
The police answered the call at
once and ran across' two men near the
house. These broke into a run and
although several shots were fired in
their direction, they soon made good
their getaway Into the darkness.

Mays, who have figured In half a dozen
nip and tuck games during the season.
For nine innings the former pitched
shut-out ball, and for eight the latter
followed his lead, but In the ninth he
lost his own game when he allowed
two hits and contributed a wild pitch.

A. S. Myres was exhibiting a bunch
ot pie cherries this morning that were
as large as the Bing variety. They
were blood red, plump and of such un
usual size that they were greatly ad
mired by all who saw them. Mr. Myres

POWER CO. EXTENDS SERVICE
Building Sub-Station iu Elgin, and
Mill Build Line Into Imbler.
John Oberg of Elgin has the con
tract of building a new sub-station' far
the Eastern Oregon Light & Power
company In that town. The company
is extending Its service for light and
power into Elgin, Imbler and sur
rounding country. They are now
constructing their lines and are push
ing the work on the sub-station ln
Elgin. Manager Gore announced this
morning that they hoped to have ev
erything in readiness by the first of
October to turn on the "juice" into
their new territory. .

Two Drunks. Arrested.
Last night two men were arrested
for being drunk on the streets. One
was very acommodatlnc. He. in an
excessive state of Intoxication, came
to the police station with a complaint
against someone. After a little Inter
view. Chief McLaughlin decided he
was the one who needed the naternal
care of the city and tendered him the !
free use of a bed for the nlhL He I
apparently enjoyed a sound sleep and i
this morning left the station with no
thought of complaint against whom
