Returning without a load, he was out strictly on a business trip with another man, a lady was seen go ing a-foot to La Grande. Now none of the many happy-minded men of our city aro more gallant In their atten tions to the fairer sex than Is Mr Busi ness Man. She was too large to walk far and be Instinctively knew It; so did she. Site wanted to ride and he wanted her to do so. When fairly seated the machine began to sing a song ot high speed; she said "My, but this goes, don't it!" The chauffeur owner said nothing and only speeded up a little. She was by this time cling ing to the back of the seat In front of her, and whispering, "My, I never rode In one of these things before." Oc casionally there was an unexpected bump In the road and she had an un expected contact with the seat she did not know she had left till she found it on returning." Whew!" said the pass enger. Mr. Chauffeur-Business Man only grinned and looked at the gentle man on the seat with him with a' twinkle In the tall of his eye. At Grange Hall and elsewhere they turned corners that almost "missed the plate." and otherwise contributed to the entertainment of the lady by giving her the ride of her life. A couplo of miles out from town they stopped for something and the female passenger never with a word of thanks, nor even looking back, slipped out of that machine nnd the way she "heat It to town" was a caution to snakes. The "ornrey" couple of men did not overtake her either. One of the men had a name that sounded like "Joker", but not exactly. The other was a minister.
