Kecltal to lie Clveu Next Week tructluif Mncb Attention. At. Musical circles are centered upon the coming recital by Mr. and Mia. Herbst, the German grand opera mu sical stars who are now visiting rel- j atlves at Union. The Ladies' Guild U much encouraged at the Interest taken and a large audience Is forcasted when the stellar musicians step be fore the admirers on the night of their appearance. So Many La Grande people know Mrs. Wright Herbst that It is scarce ly necessary to dwell on her abilities other than to say she Is much Im proved over her capacities theu when heard here the last time about six years ago. Mr. Herbst is a rare art ist with the violin and here Is what a German paper says of him: .Coburger Tageblatr, Co'iurg, Saxony. The soloist of the evening was a former member of our court orches tra coscert master, G. Herbst, nov .' the Grand ducal court theatre In ! Weimar. In the first part of the program he played the concerto in D major from Shilling, and in the second part tbe Beethoven Concerto, both with or chestra accompaniment. Ills tone possesses a peculiar sweetness ami charm, which completely captivates his audience after a few measures. His technique is worthy of great praise. He overcomes the greatest difficulties with wonderful brilliance while his "Cnntilene" gives the im pression of great repose in the strong singing tones. The artistic climax, however, was reached In the Beethov en concerto, the cadenza at the close of the first movement giving Mr. Herbst an opportunity to show his extraordinary ability In all Its phases.
