national reputation, member of the
grand ducal court theatre in Weimar,'
and a soloist of rare talent. 1
Mrs. Herbst, formerly Ina Wright
of Union, Is well known in Oregon,
having given concerts here on the oc
casion of her former visits to Ameri
ca since she has been living abroad. Freeg
Her career in Germany aa an opera
and concert singer, and as a vocal :
teacher, hag been one of exceptional
access.

Boise, July 31. (Special) With a
team of a new complexion, the Pip
pins lost yesterday, when three home
runs, mixed in with a bunch of sin
gles and doubles, knocked the first
game of the La Grande series into the
Boise sack. The irrigators slaughter
ed the offerings of Wesley Fox, while
Pope held the enemy neatly, and the
final result was 10 to 3. Kelly. Alter
matt and Pope all drove the ball for
meal tickets, and two of the long
hits found a man on base.
Fielding Is Sensational.
At that, the team that Carl King
has taken charge of did not show up
so badly. The'Pippins fielded a sen
sational game, and but for the work
of the batteries they played as good
hall as did the Irrigators. The only
error was a wild peg to second by
Fitchner, a pitcher who was playing
out of position behind the plate. Ear
ly In the game King saw that Fox's
spltter wasn't breaking for him, but
he is short of pitchers and could not
change.
Notwithstanding the Jobs of Barry

stronger than when it was here he
