Accepting the helm of the La Grande baseball craft In the third Inn ing, two down, "Shine" Harmon pitch ed the Pippins to victory yesterday afternoon with the assistance of a sward-burnlng drive through Etchan- dy's glove by the nifty little second baseman. Esola. Incidentally La Grande got even with Etchandy, the big Frenchman, a former team-mate, for two defeats aduitnlstred at Pen dleton lust week, and because of the fact that it was a nlnth-lnnlng victory It made the game both exciting and satisfactory to the home bunch. Fox was ent to the hospital in the third with a badly lacerated thumb sustain ed when he was forced to receive a dreadfully warm liner on his bare hand. Harmon came to the mound and kept the books without an entry on the Pendleton side until the eighth. l.' to the eighth he allowed two Blattering lilts. Ktehandy Is Good, Ton. It was well along In the game nsaln, the sixth In fact, when La Grande got another one over, and that time Etchandy was partly to blame. Luttrell hit again but went out stealing second and Smith fanned but Harmon got a walk. Cannon's hit to Robinson wandered through that player's feet and allowed Harmon to advance after ho Btole second. From third thp Idol of the hour came wan dering home when Esola sacrificed. Pendleton Ties TIiIiiim up. Then Harmon got the onlyinning with nervousness written on It that lie had. Ttohlnson was an easy out but one of Harmon's shoot caromed off Lodell's shoulder and put the cap tain on first. N'adeau then drove out a long hit that should have been a sin gle but got by Smith and he went to second, Lodell coming home. Nadean scored and you will notice he Is gen erallv mixed tin with the scoring bus Iness whejjfwijpoled a long fly to King wno naitrjien Harmon s piace. Forbes fanned but Naugliton got transportation and King sent him down to second with a well- placed hit. Thus two were down and things looked gloomy, they sure did. But Esola found one to his liking and drove It straight at Etchandy who tried to stop the bullet but It went tlirov.gtt l!k wa er through a seive and niiMtulered off to the outfield. With Fox knocked out of the game but a moment before, Wil son ran into Rader and was knocked out, being led bleeding from the field. This brought Pembrook back to his old position for he was slated for a rest yesterday. Both the Injured men are recovering from their hurts, al though Fox may be out of It for some time. Two policemen were on hand yes terday. Coupled with this fact was the much more satisfactory work of Phil Knell and there was no com plaint on any score. He was fair In his decisions and gave the benefit of the doubt to the base runners on both sides. It Is a duty of the grounds management to have the place well policed and to protect the players from insults from the grand stand and to protect the fans from profanity and vulgarity among the players. The police overlooked a case In each In stance yesterday. There Is no need of roughneck rooting or any cursing (Continued on page seven.)
