A STATEMENT OF FACT 'v';;; Iiess than a year ago Connordale was a cow-pasture, and Washington Avenue a country road, muddy and rough in winter, dusty and choked with weeds in the Bummer. Three years.ago there was not a payed street in La Grande and the census of 1910 allowed .this city a population of only 4,800 people..To day there are miles of asphalt streets, concrete side-walks, green parking spaces and young shade trees and many more districts notably , Washington Avenue to be improved this summer. And the very people who most bitterly opposed these improvements are now asking themselves: "How did we ever get along without them?" ' . . . - y . Together with the improvements have come a greater volume of busi ness, an increased population and pay-roll, larger deposits in the banks, a more progressive spirit and greater prosperity for every one all the way around. DOES IT PAY? The answer is too obvious to be evaded even by the most con servative tax-payer of this city. The rapid increase in the value of property has more than off-set the cost of the improvements on it.. Thejaalance is overwhelm "Tngly on the CREDIT side of the city's account with Prosperity.
