Sunday School work In Eastern Ore
gon, has moved to La Grande to
make his headquarters here. Some
of the characteristics of the man is
reflected in the way he broke up a
Sunday ball game at Baker and pulled
the rooters and players and all Into
the church. Once In, he had them
singing . religious hymns like old
church-goers and he immediately
won a "borne" In an element be want
ed to work with. He has five or six
eastern Oregon counties wherein be
will work with La Grande as head
quarters and to spread the Sunday
School germs is his mission. The
movement is national with district
headquarters.
While much of the success ot this
work Is due to the interdenomina
tional character of the society,, all
homes being opened gladly to Its mis
sionaries and all elements uniting In

of a resolution adopted by the com
mon council of the city ot La Grande,
Oregon, on the 15th day of May, 1912,
creating Improvement district No. 60
and designating Cedar street, as such
district, and in pursuance of a reso
lution adopted by said common coun
cil on the 15th day of May, 1912,
whereby said council determined and
declared its intention to Improve all
that portion of Cedar street, In said
Improvement district as hereinafter
described, by grading said street, the
council will, ten days after the ser
vice of this notice upon the owners
of the property affected and benefited
by such improvement, order that said
above described Improvement be made
that the boundaries of said district to
be so improved are as follows:
from the south line of Main avenue
to the north line of Spring avenue.
(A) And the property affected or
benefited by said Improvement Is as
follows: ,
Lots 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, block 2 and
lots 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12, block 5,
Romig's addition to La Grande, Ore
gon. Notice is hereby further given that
the council will levy a special assess
ment on all the property affected and
benefited by such Improvement for the
purpose of paying for such Improve
ment. That the estimated cost of such
improvement is the sum of $740.04.
That the council will, on the 19th day
of June, 1912, meet at the council
chamber at the hour of 8 o'clock p. m.,
to consider said estimated cost, and
the levy of said assessment, when a
hearing will be granted to any person
feeling aggrieved by such assessment
