brain of Mr. II. Rudd of La Grande
and Island City . that conceived the
thing as practical for our region. It
was no small undertaking and was an

tentions and other similar, gatherings
but the institute wub new. The dif
ference between the convention prop
er and this lies in the fact that in the
former all the sessions are open and
general while these have their meet
ings inseparate rooms and apart
ments, each presided over by an In
structor who teaches and lectures to
.students and note-takers on speclfis

The first institute has just con
cluded fls sessions at Baker. Mr.
