The Chicago con vention promises to he the most ex citing ever held in the history ot the country providing there is no sur render before the battle. Taft controls the national committee. The commit tee can seat enough Taft delegates to give him a majority in the convention. There is just about as much to he said in favor of the Taft delegates from the south, as the Roosevelt's because the southern republican delegates wheth er they support Taft or Roosevelt rep resent what patronage, money or cor ruption they can buy. Washington, June 6. It was an nounced today that Senator Nixon of Nevada who died of spinal meningitis Here last night, will be buried at Reno. JuBt before death came Nixon called on three Christian Science healers who attempted to save his life. DISORDERS CONTINUE. Belglam'seetheg With Disturbances and Strikes. Brussels, June 6. Although disor ders are reported today in most of the large cities of Belgium they are not of a serious nature. The Socialists here today announced that tbey would demand a revision of the legislation which is causing the present disturb ances at the next session of parlia ment. The valuable coin was found by the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Knapp and he, of course, prizes it highly.' Aside from a few scatter ing pieces no material quantity, of coin has been found in the ash, which has been thoroughly combed by boys of that part of. the city. -s- .- VALLEY IS TO BENEFIT Local Elks Receive Wor dThat Omaha Special Will Slop Here. For two hours the La Grande' lodge of j1rs and the Commercial club ot this city will entertain the Omaha lodges Just prior to the opening of the Elks' grand lodge convention In Port land in July. The local lodge received word last evening assuring them the Omaha special would stop here long enough to take a tour ot the fruit belt and automobiles will probably be drafted into service for the occasion. However, the entertainment features have not been worked out in toto. It is very ' likely that other special trains could be Induced to halt here for an hour or two in which event the city and valley would get much desir able first hand publicity. The Elks' train will be made up of many promi nent financiers arid influential busi ness men with whom publicity would do much good. The local Elks are now working out entertainment plans for the Omaha Elks especially. :BIG SQUADRON IS HURRYING TO till A. VI A.I Amu. Conditions in Cuban Island District Apparently Worse Now. Washington, June 6. The navy de partment is preparing today to send the battleships Florida, Utah, Delaware-and North Dakota now, at An napolis, to Key . West next Saturday. The fourth division of the AtlantUk fleet consisting of the four battleships which left Key West yesterday ar rived at Guantanamo today, according to dispatches received here. The war ships landed 1100 marines at Guantan amo this afternoon. The plan of the administration now is to -await the effect of the United States battleships on the Cuban revo lutionists. United. States Minister Beaupre at Havana wired the state de partment today that President Gomez is receiving 10,000 volunteers, and ha asked the United States to furnish 6,000 more Krag rifles, and a million more rounds of ammunition. With Roosevelt and Taft leaders each claiming a ma Jority of the delegates, while both sides privately admit the result will be close, the republican national com' mittee met here this afternoon to con aider a temporary roll call of the dele gates to the national convention. To day's session was devoted mostly to organization and rules procedure. The Taft men control the committee by a lame majority and contesting Taft delegates will probably be seated. It is considered certain that Elihu Root will be elected temporary chairman of the convention. The first contests to be considered are those of Arkansas, Alabama and Arizona and will probably not be set tied before Saturday. Taft la expected to win in practically all of these. Taft is being kept In constant touch with the developments by means of a private telephone line to the office of his secretary, Charles D. Hilles, here, to the white house. If the national committee pushes through a Taft platform it is generally believed that Roosevelt will come here next 'week. Uninstrncted delegates apparently hold the balance of power. Both sides claim them but their posi tion will not be determined until the first roll call is taker on the makeup of the temporary organization. It is expected a plank endorsing the recall, including judges, will divide the Roosevelt camp. Some Roosevelt del egates do not favor the recall of the judiciary, saying it is unpopular in their states. A revised list of the delegates shows that 1-50 of the 1078 delegates to the national convention are contested, in cluding two from California and 14 from Washington. ? right were horribly mangled. Los Angeles, June 6. That Bert Franklin, conferred with the strike committee ot the Merchants and Man ufacturers' association regarding his plea of guilty and tbey promised him immunity if he would so plead, was what Earl Rogers, a defense attorney, tried to-make Franklin admit today on cross examination. Franklin admitted going to the office of the M. and M., and meeting members of the strike committee, but said he could not re member the conversation. Franklin also admitted he applied for a position in the district attor ney's office two weeks before he was employed by the McXnmara defense. BRYAN'S NAME CHEERED.
