hoards for the La Grande club. The
weather godB yesterday decreed that
Walla Wallans should see no game
making the fourth game that has to
te played, out of schedule. La Grande
la leading the league In this respect, at
any rate. She has one tie game to
play off with Boise, two post
poned games with Pendleton and now
one with Walla Walla. While fans ad
mit, the postponed games auger good
for the Pippins as they are becoming
Btrongcr every day, still the finance
will suffer scriouBly. Again the prob
able increased strength of the game
will be tasked to handle all the post
poned games In view of the fact that
La Grande na more of them to play
than any other team. Boise has three,
Pendleton two, and Walla Walla three
to pay off In the near future. It is
also' probable that a majority of these
games will be played afternoons al
though local commodores of the ship
of baseball would rather have them
payed morning and nfternoon.

Developments in the Norrls-Ho'uson
elopement from Elgin this afternoon
are merely that Deputy Lee Warnlck
has gone to Elgin to proceed on a
hunt for the deputies and elopers who
have not been heard from. The girl
who Is but 17 and-unused to trying
tasks of braving mountain rains for
das 'ie suffering hardships, It is fear
ed. Dressed as a man she eloped with
Hobson several days ago and though
deputies -have been on the hunt for
36 hours and niore there Is no trace
of them at least no ttord has been
i ('turned to the sheriff's office here or
to Elgin. Both of the fugitives are
weil known In Elgin, the girl being
an (.specially beautiful young lady of
good parentage.

First Actual Invasion of Cuban Soil
Occurs Today.
Havana, May 30. The first party of
American marines to be landed on
Cuban soil as a direct result of the
negro Insurrection, landed today when
a detachment of marines was sent to
Daiqulrri, following a rebel raid last
night on tire company's plant at Playa
in Sant aClara province.

tor Norrls Brown of Nebraska was the
orator at the. memorial day exercises
at the Arlington national cemetery to
day. The graves of the 20,000 soldiers
who rest in the magnificent cemetery
were, decorated by the various patrio
tic societies.
LatonJa Meeting Opens.
-Cincinnati, O., May 30. The annual
spring race meeting at Latonia open
ed today under conditions that prom
ise a successful season. The meeting
will last 24 days, with six races on
the dally card. The Latonia Derby,
the most prominent of the events on
the program, will be run one week
from Saturday.
Venturing up the Grande Ronde
Lumber company's tracks to push
some logging care out of tho way, an
O.-W. engine yesterday ' afternoon
crashed through a culvert at the eiid
of the Hilgard Y. Considerable diffi
culty was met In getting the engine
back but none was hurt or any seri

Norway for a three months' visit In

friends. He has been In America 18
