Seats went on sale this morning for "The Campus," one of the bright par ticular offerings of the season, bring ing Ferris Hartman, the well known comedian star, who comes direct from a long run at the Grand opera house In Los Angeles, California, the show having attained at this play house alone, a record of 212 performances to capacity audiences. Ferris Hartman brings with htm the entire original ', company, Including Walter De Leon, the young author of the play and Miss ' "Muggins" Davies, the dainty and de lightful soubrette, with a large cast and chorus of boys and girls. The music of "The Campus" is Irresistibly at tractive, there being 18 . song lilts, among which are the dainty duet "How-de-do," the rag time, "I Leave It to You," the rousing Pipe and Stein I song, a novelty number "Spooks":' charmingly sung and danced by Miss I Davies and the Freslile girls, the in- I ternatlonal proposal duet between Mr. De Leon and Miss Davies, "The Same Old Love," Mr. Hartmon's own Con tribution being an especially fine number, "Before You Are Old," and Walter De Leon's song that everyone enjoys, sings and whistles, "Is Every body Happy." Of the many character types of both young and old people whom De Leon has drawn, there are none that are not absolutely natural and are easily recognizable. Good natured wit, Ihe ardor of youthful sentiment and clean, wholesome com edy run riot" through the three acts. The dialogue Is eminently natural, the humor of the piece depends upon its comedy sltuatons more than It does upon high flown or stilted dialogue. It does seem strange that some people permit themselves ..to fret into one rut and there remain. .' This week a man came into my office, whom I thought owned his home and when I asked him how long since he purchased, he replied, "Why, I have lived in La Grande for the tast twelve years and never bought. I have some times thought I would but it seemed I never got to it." . Inquiry revealed the fact that this man has paid on an average of $20 per month, which means that he has paid out $2,880 and has nothing to show for it. . Had my friend invested soon after coming here he would today be living in a $2,000 home all paid for. Not only that, he would have been a better fath er, a-better husband and a better citizen. The possession of a home creates an independence that no one can possess in a rented property. "Weidare say there are no less than fifty people in La Grande today who occassionally think about buying a home but keep on paying the other fellow when if they will come to my office I will show them hoAv easy it is to save this - constant drain on the family purse.
