Such was the verdict arrived at last iu?ht after three hou-J of deliberation by the twelve men selected In the Io ta! superior court, to try the case of William Johnson Shaw, the nero charged with killing hu wife, Alice Shaw, In this city February 27. at the home of Attorney lohn Sharpsleln. The case went to the jury at 4; 16 yesterday attemoon and at 7:15 the foreman, Campbell Robinson, notified the bailiffs that they hal arrived at a verdict. During their deliberations, four ballots were taken, the firut vote showing eight for conviction of the charge of murder in the first degree and four for murder In the second. On the second ballot all but one juror voted for first degree murder, the re sult remaining the same on the third. Another discussion of the case en sued and on the fourth and last ballot the result was unanimous for 'first degree murder.- ' : The case will probably be appealed.
