Plans are being made for a big high
school baseball benefit to be given one
week from Saturday night, on March
9th, says the hlgli school correspon
dent In the Elgin Recorder. The best
talent In the high school will make
up the program, which is to be given
In Blumeixstein s hall. For the rest
of the school year all the high school
spirit will be directed toward base
ball. So far nothing has been done
in that line of sports,, the season, nt
bent, will be short and so should be
promoted with a greater degree of en

Bidders Must Submit Proposals for
the Entire Work.
Each proposal must be accompanied
by a certified check amounting to 5
per cent of the total bid, payable to
the order of the Grande Ronde Val
ley Irrigation company, as a guaran
tee that the bidder will, If successful,
promptly execute a satisfactory con
tract and furnish bond for the faith
ful performance of the work as re
quired by paragraph five of the speci
fications. Each proposal muBt also
be accompanied by a guarantee of re
sponsible sureties to furnish bonds as
required If the proposal Is accepted.
The proposal must be marked "Pro
posal for Construction of Main Canal,
Grande Rondo Valley Irrigation Pro
ject," and addressed "Grande Rondo
Valley Irrigation Company, La Grande
Oregon." Tho name of the bidder
should be written on the envelope in
cluding proposal.
The center line of the canal on the
proposed route Is now staked. The
right to change location is reserved
by the cbmpany (see article 23 of
specifications.) Bidders are particu
larly cautioned to Investigate local
conditions which may affect the bid
