(Special) Carl Stackland just returned from a busi ness trip to Portland. A number of families are quaran tined for scarlet fever. , ' The school entertainment given last Friday evening at the Mitchell hall was fairly well attended, a good many not being present on account of the bad roads and the scarlet fever. A number of cars of- apples were, shipped out the past week, by F. B. Bell and the Mt. Fapnie Fruit com pany. We understand the demand for apples Is some better than It was early in the winter. Mr. and Mrs. Peal, recently from Walla Walla, are again residents of Cove. 'They are estimable people and we are pleased to have the mback. August Anderson and wife (from California who have been visiting Mr. Anderson's brothers, Buslnon and Lo gan for several weeks started on their return Monday of this . week.. Cove and vicinity at the present time Is experiencing some of the worst- roads in Us history. If you are going to start'out on a trip, better go afoot or horseback, ' but an aeroplane would be preferable to Cither. Some of the Covites and I guess it Isn't limited to Cove, either, are up In arms over the high taxes for 1912. The reason Is going to be Investigated at a meeting to be held at La Grande Tuesday of this week, with the hopes that a remedy may be had In the fu ture.
