Five Conversions Extension Work Is

Splendid success was attained ' in
overy feature of the district confer
ence of the. Methodist church, South,
which came to a close last evening in
this city. The north side chapel has
been filled with delegates and church
members since Friday morning and
the. last day was even greater than
the previous ones, nishop R. Q. Wa
terhouse of Los Angeles preached
yesterday morning, In the afternoon a
rousing children's meeting was held
and In the evening Dr. Crutchfteld of
Columbia college lectured.
'. Five conversions and additions to
the church were effected during the
conference, which, in the opinion of
the visiting ministers and laymen, was
the most important in the church's
history in many years. The delegates
were many and active workers in the
church, all of which resulted the
greatest good being done. . .
Considerable extension work was
tentatively , planned and committees
are- now working out the best pro
cedures to be followed, having for the
chief aim the betterment of church
conditions on the north side where
the Methodist chapei Is" the only
church structure. '
The delegates returned to their
homes this morning greatly, pleased
with the success of the local confer
ence.

The Ilev. Allen Fort, pastor of the
Baptist tabernacle In Chattanooga,
asked J. B. Capeheart, a railroad con
ductor, to take up the collection one
day. It wns Mr. Capeheart's first expe
rience as a taker of collections in u

There were several children In the first
pew, nnd each put in a penny. The
people In the next pew also contributed
something ench. A big, glum fellow sat
alone in the third pew. Capeheart
passed him the plate. The man shook
his head nnd stuck his hands deep In
