: Island City, Ore,, Fob. 13. (Special)
-Last evening the Brotherhood gave
It's .first big social function. It' took
its form this time in a banquet. How
ever, let -it be clearly understood that
the banquet was not prepared by the
men. The good ladies of Island City
and vicinity responded nobly to the
call of the men with wonderful re
sults..;. Island ' City claims a popu
lation of less than, two hundred, In
cluding school children., ' Of the men
and --women over; one hundred sat
down to that splendid repast. It was
Indeed a most gratifying sight, , over
60 men seated In one body. -The affair
took place in the Brotherhood's new
club rooms. The program follows:

Club Itooms Commodious.
Two weeks 'ago the Brotherhood
leased the second floor of the old M.
and M. building for club room pur
poses. The larger ; of the .two front
rooms is to' be fitted up aB a library,
the smaller as a committee room.' The
I large center room will hereafter be
i the scene of light gymnastic efforts,
' Already the wheels are turning which
will mean within a few weeks boxing
gloves and- other necessary equip
ment. The library will soon be well
' supplied with good books. No longer
will it be necessary for the men to
spend their idle hours on the street.
Perhaps even La Grande's library-will
rot, draw them away. ; -.
' Future of tlio Brotlicrlwod. ;v
